About our cause
Afghanistan and Central Asian Association provides a much loved and valued service for the community.
You might be aware that the Afghanistan & Central Asian Association has been working tirelessly to support Afghans in the UK pleading for assistance with bringing families targeted by Taliban over to the UK. Since the crisis we have become the first contact point for the government, media and the newly-arrived Afghan people. We are now extremely busy with unprecedented levels of demand. For the last 60 days, 600 people have been coming to our office everyday queuing from 5am. We have become like Kabul Airport. We have also distributed and delivered 3 40ft containers of donations to newly-arrived refugees in hotels across the UK.
There are a number of activities that we are seeking to deliver to the newly-arrived refugees including English language classes, Supplementary School for Children, Employment Training and Work Experience Placements, Mental Health and Counselling, Mentoring, Women’s Empowerment, Legal Advice, Sports Activities for Youth and Cultural Events. The main geographical focus of our activities will be London. We aim to run regular tuition in English language skills and workshops on women’s empowerment, mental health and well-being for families in addition to a range of basic skills aimed at supporting their integration into local communities across the UK. All of these will need funding.
The demand for our services has increased so much and we can’t cope with the high demand without building the capacity through recruiting and employing more staff.
There are hundreds of people still coming to our centre everyday asking for advice on housing and immigration and other councils across the UK asking for help to establish our services in their cities. We are severely over-stretched. We are a small charity and cannot cope with the level of demand since the crisis started in Afghanistan.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Yours sincerely,
Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi
